The Final Drive to Complete Kkoba School: Staff and Toilet Blocks
Purpose Projects is building a school for 1000 children in the remote, underdeveloped village of Kkoba in Eastern Uganda. This is going to be the first EVER school in this community, which will have a massive impact on the area.
Key Points
-
Our volunteers are doing a fantastic job raising money for the school classrooms and will be traveling to Kkoba in two trips, November 2018 and January 2019.
-
In addition to the fundraising of our wonderful volunteers, we are seeking donations for the last two buildings of Kkoba School (the staff block and the toilet block). These last two blocks are essential facilities for the school and will ensure it has everything required to provide the best possible education.
-
We have a strong partnership and working history with a local NGO called Hope Line who are able to source all workers and materials from within the community and will manage the school upon completion.
More Information
The reality is that the children in this community are extremely uneducated. Most children have never stepped foot in a school and their limited education restricts them from progressing any further than working long hours in labour-intensive jobs. Unfortunately, this affects almost all children in the community, and without the intervention of high-quality, practical education, this restrictive cycle will continue. This is one of the primary factors that Uganda suffers from the high level of poverty present in most rural regions.
The school will provide practical education for children from a nursery age all the way through to intermediate level.
The staff block is a basic building that will have a staff room, offices and a storage room for resources. In order to ensure the long-term success of the school, we are working with Hope Line to source over 50 staff members including; qualified teachers, matrons, cooks, and wardens who will require an organisational hub to work from. The toilet block will consist of traditional latrines and will be separated for boys and girls.
Hope Line are trusted partners and friends who we have developed a strong relationship with over the last four years while working on six previous projects together. Through our connection with Hope Line, we can ensure that all work is done by local builders and with local resources which helps to provide opportunities for the businesses in the region. However, Hope Line’s commitment goes far beyond the construction as they will also be managing the school upon its completion.
The community of Kkoba is incredibly grateful for your donation and we would like to keep you up to date with their progress through regular updates. We also send personally signed thank you cards to all donors after the school is complete as a token of our personal appreciation.
